Ingredients

Hot Chocolate:

  • 2 tablespoons Bourbon more or less depending on preference
  • 2 tablespoons Cacao or Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 cups Almond Milk or Coconut Milk
  • ¼ teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Whipped Cream:

  • 3 Vanilla Beans
  • 1 can Coconut Cream
  • ¾ cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Hot Chocolate

  • In a small saucepan, heat the almond milk or coconut milk over medium heat until it comes to a gentle simmer. Be careful not to let it boil.

Step 2: Add the Cocoa Powder

  • Reduce the heat to low and whisk in the cacao or unsweetened cocoa powder until it is fully incorporated into the milk. Continue whisking for about 2 minutes, ensuring there are no lumps.

Step 3: Add the Flavors

  • Stir in the vanilla extract and bourbon, adjusting the amount of bourbon to suit your taste preference. Let the hot chocolate simmer for another minute or two, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 4: Prepare the Whipped Cream

  • While the hot chocolate is simmering, let’s prepare the whipped cream. In a large mixing bowl, add the chilled coconut cream, powdered sugar, scraped vanilla beans, and vanilla extract.

Step 5: Whip it Good!

  • Using an electric mixer or a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the mixture on medium-high speed until it forms stiff peaks. This will take about 3-5 minutes, depending on the speed of your mixer.

Step 6: Assemble the Whipped Chocolate Milk

  • Finally, it’s time to assemble the whipped chocolate milk! Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, leaving some room for the whipped cream. Dollop a generous portion of the whipped cream on top of the hot chocolate, creating a beautiful contrast of colors.

Step 7: Garnish

  • For the finishing touch, you can sprinkle some cocoa powder or chocolate shavings on top of the whipped cream. Grab a spoon, dive in, and let the flavors dance on your palate. Enjoy this marvelous creation to the fullest!

Notes

  • Use quality ingredients for the best flavor. Opt for organic almond milk or coconut milk, as well as high-quality cacao or unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • If you don’t have bourbon on hand, you can substitute it with rum or a flavored liqueur like Kahlua or Baileys for an extra kick.
  • For a sweeter hot chocolate, add more powdered sugar to the whipped cream or sprinkle some on top of the drink.
  • You can store the leftover whipped cream in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Just give it a quick whisk before using it again.
  • To make this recipe vegan, use maple syrup or another liquid sweetener instead of powdered sugar in the whipped cream.
