Bake an Egg
Kimberly Booker RD
When it comes to breakfast, eggs are the all-stars. They are quick, healthy, and versatile. One of my absolute favorite ways to enjoy eggs is by baking them. Baking an egg creates the perfect texture: tender whites with a runny yolk. And if you haven’t tried this method yet, you're in for a treat. It’s an easy dish that allows for lots of creativity. You can throw in your favorite toppings, and in minimal time, you’ll have a satisfying meal.

- How to Make Bake an Egg
- Cooking baked eggs is as simple as singing a nursery rhyme. Just follow these steps and you’ll have a lovely dish on the table in no time.
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Step 2: Prepare Your Ramekin
Grab a 4.5-inch ramekin and coat it with the extra-virgin olive oil. This not only prevents the eggs from sticking but also adds a lovely flavor to the dish. Place the ramekin on a baking sheet. This makes it convenient to move in and out of the oven—trust me, your future self will thank you for it.
Step 3: Crack the Eggs
Carefully crack two eggs directly into the greased ramekin. You might want to do this gently to avoid any egg shell mishaps. At this point, sprinkle sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over the top. It’s a small step, but it elevates the flavor nicely.
Step 4: Bake to Perfection
Pop the baking sheet with the ramekin into your preheated oven. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes. Keep an eye on them! You want the whites to be just set while the yolks remain soft and runny. The baked eggs will continue to cook slightly after being removed from the oven, so try to pull them out a tad underdone.
Step 5: Add Toppings
Once the eggs are done baking, let’s add some flair! Crumble the goat cheese on top, sprinkle with fresh parsley, a bit of dill, and toss in some sautéed spinach. Add a few cherry tomato slices on top, then finish it off with a handful of microgreens. This adds freshness and color that makes your dish pop.
- Use room temperature eggs for a more even bake; cold eggs can take longer to set.
- Experiment with personal toppings based on what you have on hand—get creative!
- Ensure not to overbake; dried-out eggs aren’t as pleasant.
- A dash of hot sauce before baking can elevate the flavor dramatically.
- For added nutrition, incorporate leftover cooked vegetables you have in the fridge.
