Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon spicy Sriracha sauce
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon freshly minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger

Instructions

  • Ready to get cooking? Let’s break down the steps for making this mouthwatering sauce. Follow along, and you’ll be a sauce master in no time!

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

  • Gather all your ingredients and equipment. You’ll need a mixing bowl, a whisk, and a small saucepan. Having everything ready makes the process smooth.

Step 2: Mix the Bases

  • In your mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, Sriracha, honey, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and garlic. Whisk it together until it’s a harmonious blend. This is where the magic starts!

Step 3: Thicken the Sauce

  • Now, in the saucepan, combine the cornflour and warm water. Whisk this mixture until it’s smooth. Cook over medium heat while continuously stirring. The cornflour will help thicken your sauce.

Step 4: Combine the Mixtures

  • Slowly add the pre-mixed sauce to your saucepan. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens slightly, around 2-3 minutes. It should become glossy and just a little sticky.

Step 5: Add Ginger

  • Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the freshly grated ginger. This adds a fresh dimension. Let it cool before transferring into a jar or container.

Notes

  • Play with Spice: If you like less heat, reduce the Sriracha or use a milder hot sauce. You can always adjust to your taste.
  • Shelf Life: Store leftover sauce in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Just be sure to shake or stir before use.
  • Heat Control: For extra heat, add more Sriracha. For a sweeter sauce, increase the honey or brown sugar.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh ginger and garlic can completely change the flavor. Don’t skip on these!
  • Consistency: If your sauce is too thick, add a bit of warm water until you reach your desired consistency.
