Ingredients
  

  • 1 egg optional
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup very cold water
  • 14 tbsp unsalted cold butter cut into cubes

Instructions
 

Step 1: Combine Ingredients:

  • In a food processor, add 2½ cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Then, add 14 tablespoons of cold unsalted butter cubes to the food processor.

Step 2: Pulse:

  • Pulse the ingredients in the food processor until the butter is absorbed and the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Alternatively, you can use your hands to mix the ingredients until you achieve the same texture.

Step 3: Add Cold Water:

  • Pour in ¼ cup of very cold water into the food processor and pulse again until the mixture forms pea-sized bits. This creates a dough-like consistency.

Step 4: Optional Egg:

  • If desired, you can add 1 egg to the mixture at this point. Pulse or mix until the egg is fully incorporated into the dough.

Step 5: Knead and Shape:

  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead it until it comes together to form a smooth ball. Be careful not to over-knead.

Step 6: Roll and Fold:

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle shape. Then, fold the rectangle in half, and then fold it in half again. Repeat this process one more time. This helps create layers in the puff pastry.

Step 7: Chill:

  • Wrap the folded dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours. Chilling allows the dough to rest and helps develop its texture and flavor.

Step 8: Use as Desired:

  • After chilling, the organic puff pastry dough is ready to be used in your favorite recipes. Roll it out according to your recipe instructions and enjoy delicious homemade pastries!
