Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook the ziti pasta according to the instructions on the package. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
Add the Italian sausage to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through.
Pour in the white wine and cook for a few minutes to allow the alcohol to evaporate.
Add the diced tomatoes and marinara sauce to the skillet, stirring well to combine. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the cooked ziti pasta with the sauce. Make sure all the pasta is well coated.
Spread half of the pasta mixture in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle half of the Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese on top.
Add another layer of pasta and top it with the remaining Parmesan and mozzarella cheese.
Dot the surface of the dish with butter and garnish with basil sprigs.
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
Once baked, let the ziti rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to develop and the dish to set.
