Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Meat thermometer
  • Aluminum foil
  • Microwave
  • Microwave-safe plate
  • Paper towel

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray optional
  • 1 Costco chicken pot pie

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Ensure that the oven rack is positioned in the lower third of the oven.
  • Take your Costco chicken pot pie out of its packaging, leaving it in its metal pie tin. If desired, lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.

Step 2: Bake the Pot Pie

  • Place the pot pie, still in its tin, onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Slide the baking sheet into the preheated oven and allow the pot pie to bake for approximately 1¼ to 1½ hours. Check for doneness by using a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Step 3: Allow to Cool

  • Once fully cooked, carefully remove the pot pie from the oven.
  • Let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This will allow the filling to set slightly and prevent any burns from hot steam.
  • For Frozen Pot Pie (Marie Callender):
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Remove the outer wrapper from the frozen pot pie, but keep it in its paper tray.
  • To prevent the crust from burning, cover the edges with aluminum foil.
  • Place the pot pie on a baking sheet and bake it in the preheated oven for approximately 50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) as measured with a meat thermometer.

Step 4: Reheating (Optional)

  • If you have leftover pot pie or if you’re reheating a slice, there are a couple of options:
  • For an air fryer, reheat a slice at 400°F (200°C) for 3-5 minutes until warmed through.
  • Alternatively, place the pot pie slice on a microwave-safe plate, cover it with a paper towel, and microwave on high for about 1½ minutes.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy

  • Once cooled or reheated, serve the delicious pot pie to your hungry family and enjoy a cozy and comforting meal together.

Notes

  • To add an extra layer of flavor, consider brushing the crust with melted butter before baking.
  • For a touch of sweetness, sprinkle a pinch of sugar on top of the crust before baking.
  • To ensure a crispy bottom crust, place the pot pie on a baking sheet instead of directly on the oven rack.
  • For a healthier twist, swap out the traditional crust for a puff pastry or phyllo dough.
  • To enhance the aroma of the pot pie, add a sprinkle of dried herbs such as thyme or rosemary to the filling before baking.
