Equipment

  • High-speed blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • Here’s what you’ll want to gather to make this fruity delight:
  • - 4 cups frozen banana slices that’s about 2 large bananas
  • - 2-4 tablespoons of any milk you have on hand almond, oat, or cow’s milk works great!
  • - ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract for a hint of warmth
  • - ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon to give it a cozy spice
  • Feel free to swap the cinnamon for something like cocoa powder if you're a chocolate lover!

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Frozen Bananas

  • Start by slicing your ripe bananas and placing them in the freezer until they're solid. This usually takes a few hours, but overnight is even better if you’re looking to batch prep. Use bananas that are just starting to spot for the best flavor.

Step 2: Blend with Milk

  • Once you have your frozen banana slices, toss them into your high-speed blender or food processor. Add in 2 tablespoons of your chosen milk. Starting with less milk allows you to control the creaminess level.

Step 3: Blend It Up

  • Blend on high for about 1 to 2 minutes. Don't be alarmed; the blender might make some strange sounds as it does its thing. Pause occasionally to scrape the sides with a spatula. If you find that your mixture is too thick and hard to blend, drizzle in more milk, a tablespoon at a time.

Step 4: Check the Consistency

  • After blending, you should have a luscious, thick mixture that resembles a soft-serve ice cream rather than a smoothie. It should be velvety but not completely runny.

Step 5: Serve or Freeze

  • If you can’t wait, scoop it right into bowls and dig in! But if you want it firmer, transfer the mixture to a parchment-lined bread pan or an airtight container. Freeze for about 1 to 2 hours until it firms up like traditional ice cream.

Notes

- Choose the Right Bananas: The riper the banana, the sweeter your nice cream. Look for bananas that are spotty but not overly brown.
- Experiment with Flavors: Try adding nutmeg or other spices for a twist. Or toss in a tablespoon of nut butter for a rich boost.
- Use a High-Powered Blender: This helps achieve a smoother consistency. If you have a weaker blender, you might need to let the bananas thaw for a few minutes first.
- Don’t Skip the Milk: Adding milk helps in the blending process. If you want a thicker mixture, hold back on the milk until you’ve blended the bananas fully.
- Serve Right Away: For the best texture, serve immediately rather than waiting for it to firm up in the freezer.
